Three Bryant Park Permanent Installation
New York City, December 2013
“The Guardians: Hero and Superhero” by Antonio Pio Saracino are two 13-foot public sculptures at Three Bryant Park, New York. Hero, an 8,000-pound marble statue gifted by Italy, reinterprets Michelangelo’s David as a protector of the past, while Superhero, a 15,000-pound stainless steel figure commissioned by Equity Office, represents the present. Both use stacked planar forms echoing surrounding architecture, symbolizing civic resilience and the dialogue between past and present.
